Day 1 Winnipeg | Arrival
Arrive in Winnipeg and make your own way to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax after your journey or explore the city at your own pace before your Churchill wildlife adventure begins the following morning.
Day 2 Winnipeg to Churchill | Churchill Heritage Tour
This morning, join the included group transfer from your designated Winnipeg hotel to the airport and fly north to Churchill. Upon arrival, meet your Lazy Bear Lodge guide and transfer to the Lodge, your base for the next four nights.
After settling in, set out on a guided Churchill Heritage Tour through the town and surrounding area. Discover historic Cape Merry, see the exterior of the Polar Bear Holding Facility and learn about Churchill’s distinctive northern history. Other sites may include the Miss Piggy aircraft wreck and murals found throughout the community. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 3 Churchill | Hudson Bay Coastal Boat Tour aboard Matonabee
Set out on a full-day Hudson Bay Coastal Boat Tour aboard Matonabee, Lazy Bear Expeditions’ purpose-built wildlife viewing vessel. Multiple below-water-level viewing areas add another perspective as you travel along the remote western Hudson Bay coastline. Spend approximately six to eight hours exploring coastal waters and river estuaries in search of polar bears, beluga whales and other Arctic wildlife. Summer polar bears may be seen swimming, resting among shoreline rocks or moving through the coastal landscape, while belugas gather in the surrounding waters during the summer season. Wildlife sightings remain dependent on natural conditions. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 4 Churchill | Beluga Whale Zodiac / Prince of Wales Fort Tour
Take to the water aboard a Zodiac for a guided beluga whale excursion through the Churchill River and Hudson Bay area. Watch for these distinctive white whales as they move through their summer habitat, with opportunities to observe their behaviour from the water. Continue ashore for a guided walking tour of historic Prince of Wales Fort, an impressive stone fortification overlooking the Churchill River. Explore this important piece of northern Canadian history before returning to Churchill and Lazy Bear Lodge. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 5 Churchill | Day at Leisure
Enjoy a flexible day in Churchill, with time to explore independently or add another northern experience. Visit the Itsanitaq Museum or Parks Canada Visitor Centre, browse local shops or simply enjoy the atmosphere of this remote Hudson Bay community.
Churchill | Optional Excursions
Option 1. Kayaking with Beluga Whales
Paddle the waters around Churchill on an optional guided kayaking excursion, with opportunities to encounter curious beluga whales as conditions permit. This excursion is subject to weather, tides and availability and should be reserved in advance where possible.
Option 2. Beluga AquaGliding™
Take to the water on Lazy Bear Expeditions’ Beluga AquaGliding™ experience, floating at the surface while tethered to a Zodiac and watching for beluga whales below and around you. This optional excursion operates according to weather, tides and availability.
Option 3. Dog Mushing on Wheels
Experience Churchill’s sled-dog culture on a summer dog-mushing excursion using a wheeled cart. Meet the dogs, learn about northern mushing traditions and enjoy an energetic ride through the surrounding landscape. This optional excursion is booked separately and subject to availability. Day 6 Churchill | Arctic Crawler™ Summer Tundra Tour | Flight to Winnipeg
After breakfast, head into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area aboard an Arctic Crawler™, a specially designed tundra vehicle built for exploring Churchill’s northern landscape. Travel across the summer tundra, taking in the region’s open terrain, wildflowers and northern scenery while watching for Arctic wildlife along the way. Following your tundra adventure, return to Churchill for lunch and time to enjoy your final hours in the North. Later this afternoon, transfer to Churchill Airport for your flight south to Winnipeg. Upon arrival, continue to your Winnipeg hotel for your final overnight. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 7 Winnipeg | Departure
Enjoy breakfast before checking out of your Winnipeg hotel and continuing with your own onward travel arrangements. Your Churchill summer adventure comes to an end after a journey combining polar bears, beluga whales, Hudson Bay cruising, northern history and tundra exploration. (Breakfast is included today.)
